Mobile Home Office

Looks Like a good place to park the RV for the day, an empty parking space at a Florida fish marina

Beautiful view of the bay, perfect working conditions...sure beats a stuffy cubicle!
My desk looking out over the bay.... complete with MiFi internet and a cup of java!

Mobile home office...and home for the winter!

I've got my filing cabinet!

Old Flower Seller Photos and Paintings

Victorian flower sellers were considered to be the poorest of the poor

I just love the old art of the flower sellers. During the Renaissance and Victorian times, artists often painted those who were poor. Many of these old paintings depicted gypsies and peasants in their natural surroundings, whether it be a beautiful meadow or a crowded city street.

Peasant flower sellers often worked long into the wee hours of the morning so that they could provide for their large families

Reincarnation of the Peasant's Rose

I had an order for over 400 roses so it was a busy week!

So many colors to choose from

Each rose is made from satin ribbon

My supplies

Each rose is put in a floral sleeve then a gift card is tied on with a pretty bow

During the Victorian Era, in a Dickens time capsule, a peasant's rose has bloomed. This is a recreation of those times, a hand crafted ribbon rose.
Each is made from high quality ribbon with an attached gift card. They measure 20" from bottom of the stem the top of rosebud. Added is a sprig of baby's breath and a green rose leaf. Roses can be made in dozens of vibrant colors to match any occasion or mood. Some of the favorites are teal, jade and violet.

Flower Sellers in the Third World

Here are some flower sellers from other countries. Alot of them live in the third world and the flowers are a means of support for them.

Friday, October 2, 2009

For centuries, Flower Sellers emerged from peasant girls trying to make a living for their families. The "poor little flower girl" has been romanticized and novelists such as Charles Dickens have depicted them amongst the working poor in the slums of London. Henry Mayhew did a study of London's Poor referring to them as "costermongers" living in deplorable conditions. Others were lucky and earned their living in better neighborhoods and were regarded as part of the beautiful scenery as they decorated their carts or booths with bouquets of fresh available flowers. Some even owned or leased their own land in which they grew their own flowers just outside of the city limits.

Young women often sold flowers in the streets to help their families earn a living. These girls and the man with the cart most likely made their income off of the people in the busy business districts of their cities.

Vermont Farmers Market

I loved Vermont's carefree spirit at the farmers markets. There were wonderful stands made from tree branches displaying wares, flowers and farm products.

After reuniting with an old friend, we embarked on a long awaited trip to Vermont where we discovered wonderful historic villages, farmers, markets, covered bridges and quaint shops. A fruit basket filled with handmade soaps and a grouping of primitive dolls caught my eye.
